Arlington's all-Democratic county board has maintained a record for good management.

Though Republicans should continue to field candidates who might produce a true two-party system, this year's lone contest offers no good reason to break the Democratic hold.

Incumbent Jay Fisette, generally viewed as a moderate on the five-member board, has been an energetic chairman this year, abreast of a wide range of issues from fiscal stability to affordable housing, technological improvements and urban design.

He has earned another term.
