This year's race for Arlington County Board has been one of the more interesting in years, with independent Mike Clancy running a spirited campaign in his bid to unseat Chairman Jay Fisette.

Fisette and the rest of the board have been criticized for not immediately repudiating Chris Zimmerman's threat to hold back emergency services unless the Pentagon apologized for snubbing them at a memorial service.

Clancy has also raised the legitimate issue of fire department understaffing. However, under Fisette's capable guidance, the county has continued development without destroying Arlington's many charms, so he gets The Journal's endorsement."
