Transportation: Expanding Options
Our transportation planning and staff are second to none. By providing robust transportation options, we continue to reduce the mode share of single-occupant cars in the County. We must continue to ensure that any approved building density is contingent upon an appropriate level of transit and transportation capacity. Metro, streetcar, bus, car share, bike share should all be part of our integrated transportation network that enhance accessibility for residents and workers.
Pedestrian safety has improved through better sidewalks and street crossings. As an avid cyclist, I have led a significant expansion of the bicycling infrastructure in Arlington. With the resounding success of Capitol Bikeshare, increased on-street bicycle lanes, safety classes and more, cycling will grow as a healthy and safe travel choice for residents. I will continue to work to expand the County’s electric vehicle infrastructure.
To protect consumers, I have cracked down on aggressive towing companies that were overcharging residents and visitors. This led to an overhaul of our tow ordinance and a system with better checks and balances.
