Public Safety: Keeping Our Community Safe
Arlington residents should feel safe in their homes, neighborhoods and in the broader community. In my first years on the Board, we reoriented the Police Department to a community policing model - with officers more deeply engaged in community problem solving and crime prevention. Many full time positions have been added over my years, contributing to the lowest rates of major crime since the 1960’s. We continue to invest in new fire stations and state-of-the-art apparatus and equipment for our skilled fire and EMS personnel.
As Board Chairman in 2001, I led Arlington through the response and effects of the terrorist attack on the Pentagon. We should always have an emergency preparedness capacity and plan to get us through an unanticipated incident.
