Dear Friends:
On March 2, I announced my candidacy for re-election to the Arlington County
Board.
My
seven years on the County Board have been challenging and gratifying. We have
accomplished a lot for Arlingtonians, including expanded community policing, extensive
pedestrian safety and e-government initiatives, and an unprecedented investment
in our public schools. I also led our efforts to protect citizens from predatory
towing companies and established our popular Walking Town Meetings.
Much of my work is also regional and beyond. I work hard to address regional
transportation and sprawl problems, respond to affordable housing needs, and advance
environmental protections. I am fully engaged, and personally committed, to fight
for as long as it takes to obtain equal rights and respect for gay and lesbian
Virginians.
My colleagues selected me to serve as Chairman this year, as I did in 2001
when we were confronted with the attack on the Pentagon. In 2005, I am focused
on guiding Arlington’s maturing as an urban community by affirming our commitment
to smart growth principles and ensuring our diversity through increased affordable
housing and small business initiatives.
Many of you have supported me in the past, and I thank you. Others I look forward
to thanking in the future! If you are interested in making a contribution, you
can do so online – just click on the “contribute” button above.
If you are willing to host a house party fundraiser to support my campaign, please
let us know at info@fisette.org.
I appreciate your trust and ongoing support. I love this community, and look
forward to continuing to work hard to ensure that Arlington remains the open and
progressive community in which we all may take pride.
Jay
