October 31, 2005 E-news
Hello! This is my third and final e-mail newsletter
this fall - updating you on the campaign and county board work.
Campaign 2005 Snippetsd... 9 days to go...
GOTV Mailing from Chocco and Cassie
Once again, the most well-received mailing of the season was from Chocco -
this year joined by his little sister Cassie. They wrote a compelling note to
Arlington's dog owners that, "Jay will ensure Arlington
remains a great place for dogs and people alike." It brought tears to Jay's
eyes when he read their final plea to, "Please support our Dad." To
read the mailing in its entirety, visit www.fisette.org.
Tim Kaine Leads by 3% in Latest Poll
The latest Washington Post poll showed Kaine 47% and Kilgore 44% among likely voters. While the lead fluctuates, all polls in recent weeks have the candidates within the margin of error. Bottom line: It's neck and neck - down to the wire! Jay attended a Kaine fundraiser with special guest President Bill Clinton, and then led off the speakers at a drizzly yet spirited rally for Tim later that night.
Fisette Helps with Tight General Assembly Races
There are several very competitive Delegate races in No. Va.. Jay's last planned financial solicitation was used to raise funds for these races. The Governor and General Assembly have the ability to make life miserable for local elected officials - so we're trying to help elect some more Democrats!
The following web links will make it easy to read about the candidates or to make last minute contributions (please note "per Jay Fisette" with any contribution):
Volunteers Needed
Though Jay's race is pretty well tied up - Arlington
and Tim Kaine could use a few more hands! If you have any time to drop literature
on the weekends, make reminder calls to Kaine supporters, or take time on November
2nd, please contact Tonya Tarr, Arlington's
Field Coordinator for the Coordinated campaign at tanya.tarr@vavictory2005.org
or (703) 528-8588. The closeness of this year's election will make it a foot race
to the very end and we can use all the feet (and hands) possible in the last few
days).
County Issues and Noteworthy News
Affordable Housing Roundtable
There is good news! All 23 members of the Roundtable, chaired by Jay, UNANIMOUSLY endorsed a compromise plan in which developers will partner with the Arlington to preserve and create affordable housing through the County. This is a stunning success for Arlington, made possible by the hard work of many people. The County Board plans to adopt amendments to the zoning ordinance that reflect the plan's provisions in December.
Jay briefed the Virginia Housing Commission on the plan, which is likely to
be codified by the General Assembly.
Lot Coverage Debate is Coming!
McMansions! Property Rights! Loss of Trees! Neighborhood Character! After years of analysis, the County Board will hold a public hearing on November 15th on proposals to adjust the percentage of one's land eligible for development. Citizens have raised these concerns. This is a hot topic around the country and has received much local media attention.
Fisette Elected Vice President of Virginia
Municipal League (VML)
Jay was elected Vice President of VML at its recent Annual Meeting and 100th Anniversary celebration. VML helps to improve and assist Virginia's 211 local governments through legislative advocacy, research, and education. Jay has been a member of the Executive Committee for 3 years.
Thanks for your ongoing support. Please contact me if I can be helpful
